Original perfume or fake: how to tell the difference in Algeria

A copied bottle can fool the eye for a few seconds, rarely longer. Price, packaging, batch code, sprayer: here is what to check before buying a perfume in Algeria.

01Price, the first clue

A perfume from a great house has a price floor: the bottle, the juice and the brand’s rights are expensive to make and import. A 100 ml of a famous signature offered at a fraction of its usual price is not a bargain, it is almost always a copy. Be wary too of products sold as an "extrait" or "inspired by" under the name of a famous perfume: they are imitations, not the house’s own extrait.

02The packaging

An original box is wrapped in tight cellophane with neat, even folds, no glue marks and no bubbles. The printing is sharp, the colours clean, the text free of spelling mistakes. The cardboard is rigid and the inside usually has an insert that holds the bottle firmly.

03The batch code

Houses print or engrave a batch code under the box and under the bottle. On an original perfume both codes are identical. A missing, scratched-off or mismatched code between box and bottle is a warning sign. Specialised websites can also tell you the production date from this code.

04The barcode

The 13-digit barcode on the box identifies the exact product: name, concentration and size. It must match the perfume in your hands. On ROSÉ you can even type a barcode into the search to find the matching perfume.

05The bottle and the sprayer

The glass of an original is heavy, smooth and bubble-free; the logo is crisp, engraved or printed without smudges; the cap fits precisely. The sprayer releases a fine, even mist, not a jet. Inside, the dip tube is thin and cut to the right length.

06The juice and how it lasts

A copy may smell right for the first minutes, then collapse or turn sharp. An original evolves: the top notes give way to the heart and then the base, and the scent stays on the skin for hours. A very strong smell of alcohol that never fades is a bad sign.

Frequently asked questions

Is a "tester" perfume an original?

A genuine tester holds the same juice as the boxed perfume but is meant for shops: plain box, sometimes no cap. It sells for less, but it is also copied more often. ROSÉ sells perfumes in their original sealed box.

Are cheap "extraits" the brand’s own extrait?

No. A real extrait de parfum is a house’s most concentrated version and usually costs more than the eau de parfum. A cheap "extrait" carrying a famous perfume’s name is an imitation.

How does ROSÉ guarantee its perfumes?

Every perfume is authentic, new and delivered sealed. You pay on delivery or by card, and a perfume whose box has never been opened can be exchanged within 7 days of delivery.

An original shows itself in a thousand details, and above all in the way it lives on the skin. Take the time to look, then to smell.
